DNS mistakes that look like outages
19 Aug 2026
If the site is “down” for you and up for us, it is often DNS. Four classics: the A record still points at a cancelled VPS; nameservers were changed at the registrar but not at the old host; www and the apex disagree; mail records were overwritten while “just updating the website”.
TTL makes this worse. A bad record with a long TTL means you wait. We keep TTL short the week of a move, then raise it. We do not edit live DNS from a phone in a taxi.
SPF, DKIM, and a mailbox you actually read belong in the same change window as the website. Otherwise the new site looks fine and your quote form delivers to nowhere. The outage note is the sibling of this one.
Tell us what you need.
Write a few lines about your project. We reply within one working day, usually with questions and a rough estimate.
