canonical URLs for a florist
11 Sep 2026
How a florist deals with canonical URLs — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: query-string copies of the same page. This breaks canonical URLs for a florist.
We once forgot to renew canonical URLs for a weekend project and it took down a page that a florist linked to from a print flyer. We now set auto-renew on everything.
DNS propagation is not instant, but it is not magic either. We explained to a florist that the TTL on the old canonical URLs record was 86 400 seconds — twenty-four hours.
The worst canonical URLs failure we have seen at a florist was invisible for eight months. The backup existed but had never been tested, and the data inside was three migrations old.
Maintenance is not glamorous, but it is the reason a florist has not had downtime since we took over canonical URLs. The invoice is small and the peace of mind is large.
We write notes like this one because the same problems come back. If someone at a florist reads it and avoids query-string copies of the same page, the note paid for itself.
