The problem: a 2 MB photo in a 320-pixel slot. chat widgets slows the page for a marina.

The chain of trust for chat widgets starts at the registrar. If the registrar account uses an email nobody reads, every downstream fix is temporary.

Nobody at a marina could remember who had configured chat widgets. The credentials were in a text file inside a folder called OLD STUFF on a shared drive.

We check chat widgets for a marina once a quarter. It takes five minutes and has caught two problems in the past year. Both would have caused downtime within a week.

a marina asked us to look at chat widgets after a customer screenshot showed a browser warning. The fix took eleven minutes; finding the cause took two hours.

The fix was to delete the old entry, wait for TTL to expire, and re-add chat widgets with the correct value. We scheduled it for 3 AM so nobody lost traffic.

We got a call from a marina on a Friday. Their chat widgets had expired overnight, and the booking page was returning errors to every visitor.

The hosting bill for a marina is twelve dollars a month. Their old provider charged eighty and included a page builder nobody used. chat widgets was broken on both plans.
