The problem: a 2 MB photo in a 320-pixel slot. chat widgets slows the page for a plumber.

After fixing chat widgets, we added a monitoring alert. If the record changes or the certificate approaches expiry, both we and a plumber get an email. No surprises.

The worst chat widgets failure we have seen at a plumber was invisible for eight months. The backup existed but had never been tested, and the data inside was three migrations old.

For a plumber, we wrote a three-line script that checks chat widgets every morning and emails the owner if anything changes. Total cost: zero.

We moved chat widgets for a plumber to a provider that supports DNSSEC. It added five minutes to the migration and closed a class of attacks they did not even know about.

a plumber did not want to hear about chat widgets. They wanted to know: will the site work tomorrow morning. The answer was yes, but only if we fix a 2 MB photo in a 320-pixel slot today.

A friend of the owner at a plumber had set up chat widgets years ago. When we audited, the config still pointed at a server they stopped paying for in 2024.

Related work on this site follows the same principle: one job, a real inbox, no theatre. a plumber did not need four analytics dashboards to know that Tuesdays are slow.
