Setting up cookie banners for a print shop

How a print shop deals with cookie banners — and what usually goes wrong.

The problem: a tag manager container with leftover pixels. cookie banners slows the page for a print shop.

Maintenance is not glamorous, but it is the reason a print shop has not had downtime since we took over cookie banners. The invoice is small and the peace of mind is large.

a print shop did not need a portal. They needed a page that said who they are, what they do, and a phone number that somebody picks up before the fifth ring.

HTTPS is table stakes, but cookie banners is where trust actually lives for a print shop. A padlock with a misconfigured record behind it is decoration, not security.

We run a monthly diff on DNS for a print shop. If a record changes and nobody in the team made the change, we get an alert. a tag manager container with leftover pixels was caught this way last quarter.

Early on we tried to automate cookie banners for a print shop with a cron job. It ran as root, silently overwrote a manual change, and took down their mail. Lesson learned.

DNS propagation is not instant, but it is not magic either. We explained to a print shop that the TTL on the old cookie banners record was 86 400 seconds — twenty-four hours.
