What a print shop needs to know about domain transfers

2 Sep 2024

How a print shop deals with domain transfers — and what usually goes wrong.

Browser visits print-shop.com Registrar domain owner Nameserver DNS records Host serves site domain transfers a PDF that sales…

The problem: a PDF that sales cannot find. This is where domain transfers breaks for a print shop.

Complexity is the enemy of uptime. a print shop had three layers of proxy in front of a site that gets two hundred visits a day. We replaced it with a static page and correct domain transfers.

a print shop did not need a portal. They needed a page that said who they are, what they do, and a phone number that somebody picks up before the fifth ring.

A phishing page copying a print shop appeared last year. The only reason their customers could tell it apart was that domain transfers was set up correctly on the real site.

You do not need a status page if you have never gone down. a print shop is on month fourteen of zero downtime, and the secret is boring: correct domain transfers and a host that does not oversell.

Related work on this site follows the same principle: one job, a real inbox, no theatre. a print shop did not need four analytics dashboards to know that Tuesdays are slow.
