Why Google Business hours matters for a language school
21 Feb 2025
How a language school deals with Google Business hours — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a staging URL left in the sitemap. The Google Business hours data is out of sync for a language school.
The fix was to delete the old entry, wait for TTL to expire, and re-add Google Business hours with the correct value. We scheduled it for 3 AM so nobody lost traffic.
The best Google Business hours setup is the one nobody has to think about. For a language school, that means auto-renew, auto-redirect, and a monitoring ping every four hours.
After fixing Google Business hours, we added a monitoring alert. If the record changes or the certificate approaches expiry, both we and a language school get an email. No surprises.
We document Google Business hours in a shared spreadsheet. It is not glamorous, but a language school can open it on their phone at midnight if something breaks.
The vendor portal had silently rotated the key for Google Business hours, but a language school was still using the old one. Every outbound message bounced quietly.
Nobody at a language school could remember who had configured Google Business hours. The credentials were in a text file inside a folder called OLD STUFF on a shared drive.
The job started when a language school realised their Google Business hours had been wrong for months. Nobody noticed because the site still loaded.
