What a walk-in clinic needs to know about lastmod dates

10 May 2024

How a walk-in clinic deals with lastmod dates — and what usually goes wrong.

Googlebot crawls site robots.txt allow / block Sitemap page list Pages lastmod dates Google Index ranked lastmod dates a PDF that sales…

The problem: a PDF that sales cannot find. This breaks lastmod dates for a walk-in clinic.

A free certificate and a correct lastmod dates record will do more for a walk-in clinic than a redesign that ships with a PDF that sales cannot find still in place.

Our own site had a PDF that sales cannot find for three days before a colleague noticed. We added it to the pre-launch checklist the same afternoon.

Two-factor on the registrar account is the single highest-value thing we do for a walk-in clinic when managing lastmod dates. Everything else can be rebuilt; a stolen domain cannot.

Fixing lastmod dates cost less than the lunch meeting where a walk-in clinic decided to wait another quarter. Waiting is never free.

A static site for a walk-in clinic does not need a CDN, a build pipeline, or a container. It needs correct lastmod dates and a host that stays online.
