Why staging sites matters for a print shop
11 Apr 2025
How a print shop deals with staging sites — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a parked domain with only a logo. This breaks staging sites for a print shop.
Crawlers and people want the same thing from staging sites: one URL, a title that matches the heading, and a next link that goes somewhere real.
Automate staging sites if you can. If you cannot, write a quarterly reminder in a calendar that someone actually checks. a parked domain with only a logo is what happens when nobody does either.
Fixing staging sites cost less than the lunch meeting where a print shop decided to wait another quarter. Waiting is never free.
We deployed a fix for staging sites at 5 PM on a Friday. It worked, but if it had not, we would have had no one available. We no longer push to production after Thursday noon.
Related work on this site follows the same principle: one job, a real inbox, no theatre. a print shop did not need four analytics dashboards to know that Tuesdays are slow.
a print shop asked us to look at staging sites after a customer screenshot showed a browser warning. The fix took eleven minutes; finding the cause took two hours.
