What a veterinary clinic needs to know about staging sites
18 Sep 2024
How a veterinary clinic deals with staging sites — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a Facebook page with last year's hours. This breaks staging sites for a veterinary clinic.
After fixing staging sites, we added a monitoring alert. If the record changes or the certificate approaches expiry, both we and a veterinary clinic get an email. No surprises.
Email deliverability is nobody’s favourite topic, but a veterinary clinic lost two bookings because staging sites was misconfigured and replies landed in spam for a week.
Big agencies solve staging sites with a team. We solve it with a checklist and a dig command. The result is the same; the invoice is shorter.
Two-factor on the registrar account is the single highest-value thing we do for a veterinary clinic when managing staging sites. Everything else can be rebuilt; a stolen domain cannot.
The job started when a veterinary clinic realised their staging sites had been wrong for months. Nobody noticed because the site still loaded.
WordPress can handle staging sites with a plugin. But the plugin adds JavaScript, a dashboard, and a support ticket when it conflicts with the next update. We wrote four lines of config instead.
We do not start with a platform when handling staging sites. We write down who types what, who gets the mail, and what must not get lost. That list is always shorter than a vendor pitch deck.
