Why backups matters for a restaurant

How a restaurant deals with backups — and what usually goes wrong.

The problem: an inbox shared between the office and the webmaster. This breaks backups for a restaurant.

A friend of the owner at a restaurant had set up backups years ago. When we audited, the config still pointed at a server they stopped paying for in 2024.

The best backups setup is the one nobody has to think about. For a restaurant, that means auto-renew, auto-redirect, and a monitoring ping every four hours.

We told a restaurant that an inbox shared between the office and the webmaster was a ticking clock. They agreed to fix it the same week — which is rare. Most clients wait until it actually detonates.

We got a call from a restaurant on a Friday. Their backups had expired overnight, and the booking page was returning errors to every visitor.

a restaurant did not need a portal. They needed a page that said who they are, what they do, and a phone number that somebody picks up before the fifth ring.

HTTPS is table stakes, but backups is where trust actually lives for a restaurant. A padlock with a misconfigured record behind it is decoration, not security.
