Managing CAA records at a florist

29 Oct 2025

How a florist deals with CAA records — and what usually goes wrong.

Browser visits florist.com Registrar domain owner Nameserver DNS records Host serves site CAA records a robots.txt that…

The problem: a robots.txt that disallows the blog. This is where CAA records breaks for a florist.

We billed a florist two hours for CAA records. The previous agency billed forty hours and left a robots.txt that disallows the blog behind. Complexity is not expertise.

WordPress can handle CAA records with a plugin. But the plugin adds JavaScript, a dashboard, and a support ticket when it conflicts with the next update. We wrote four lines of config instead.

The chain of trust for CAA records starts at the registrar. If the registrar account uses an email nobody reads, every downstream fix is temporary.

Managed hosting handles CAA records automatically — until it does not. a florist learned this when their provider migrated servers and a robots.txt that disallows the blog disappeared silently.

Two-factor on the registrar account is the single highest-value thing we do for a florist when managing CAA records. Everything else can be rebuilt; a stolen domain cannot.
