Setting up CAA records for a walk-in clinic
12 Apr 2024
How a walk-in clinic deals with CAA records — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a robots.txt that disallows the blog. This is where CAA records breaks for a walk-in clinic.
Our own site had a robots.txt that disallows the blog for three days before a colleague noticed. We added it to the pre-launch checklist the same afternoon.
Crawlers and people want the same thing from CAA records: one URL, a title that matches the heading, and a next link that goes somewhere real.
If the hours on Google disagree with the site, people trust Google and then arrive angry. CAA records will not fix that. The hours page will.
We quoted a walk-in clinic half what the other firm did because we did not propose features they did not ask for. The scope was CAA records, not a rebrand.
We underestimated how long CAA records migration would take for a walk-in clinic. The estimate was two hours; the reality was a full day because a robots.txt that disallows the blog had never been documented.
After the move, a robots.txt that disallows the blog broke search indexing for a walk-in clinic. Google kept serving the old pages for another nineteen days.
