canonical URLs for a driving school
11 Jan 2026
How a driving school deals with canonical URLs — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a www record that disagrees with the apex. This breaks canonical URLs for a driving school.
We rotate API keys for canonical URLs annually. a driving school did not see the point until we showed them the access log: the old key had been used from an IP in a country nobody on their team has visited.
If the hours on Google disagree with the site, people trust Google and then arrive angry. canonical URLs will not fix that. The hours page will.
Instead of migrating canonical URLs all at once, we ran both configurations in parallel for a week. The switch happened on a Wednesday morning — the quietest traffic window.
Related work on this site follows the same principle: one job, a real inbox, no theatre. a driving school did not need four analytics dashboards to know that Tuesdays are slow.
Half the meeting with a driving school was explaining what canonical URLs is. The other half was agreeing that a www record that disagrees with the apex should have been fixed a year ago.
