The problem: a 2 MB photo in a 320-pixel slot. chat widgets slows the page for a veterinary clinic.

The real issue was not chat widgets itself — it was a 2 MB photo in a 320-pixel slot. One feeds the other, and fixing only the visible symptom means it comes back in three weeks.

Automate chat widgets if you can. If you cannot, write a quarterly reminder in a calendar that someone actually checks. a 2 MB photo in a 320-pixel slot is what happens when nobody does either.

Email deliverability is nobody’s favourite topic, but a veterinary clinic lost two bookings because chat widgets was misconfigured and replies landed in spam for a week.

For a veterinary clinic, we wrote a three-line script that checks chat widgets every morning and emails the owner if anything changes. Total cost: zero.

Two-factor on the registrar account is the single highest-value thing we do for a veterinary clinic when managing chat widgets. Everything else can be rebuilt; a stolen domain cannot.
