Managing contact forms at a plumber
26 May 2026
How a plumber deals with contact forms — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a www record that disagrees with the apex. This breaks contact forms for a plumber.
Early on we tried to automate contact forms for a plumber with a cron job. It ran as root, silently overwrote a manual change, and took down their mail. Lesson learned.
We once forgot to renew contact forms for a weekend project and it took down a page that a plumber linked to from a print flyer. We now set auto-renew on everything.
Six months later, a plumber asked us to look at something unrelated. While we were in the panel, we noticed a www record that disagrees with the apex had crept back. We fixed it before it caused trouble.
Before you touch contact forms, take a screenshot of the current state. Half of our emergency calls come from people who cannot remember what was there before the change.
Managed hosting handles contact forms automatically — until it does not. a plumber learned this when their provider migrated servers and a www record that disagrees with the apex disappeared silently.
We got a call from a plumber on a Friday. Their contact forms had expired overnight, and the booking page was returning errors to every visitor.
Instead of migrating contact forms all at once, we ran both configurations in parallel for a week. The switch happened on a Wednesday morning — the quietest traffic window.
