The problem: HTTP bookmarks after a forced HTTPS move. cookie banners slows the page for a veterinary clinic.

A phishing page copying a veterinary clinic appeared last year. The only reason their customers could tell it apart was that cookie banners was set up correctly on the real site.

We write notes like this one because the same problems come back. If someone at a veterinary clinic reads it and avoids HTTP bookmarks after a forced HTTPS move, the note paid for itself.

When we onboard a veterinary clinic, the first thing we check is cookie banners. It tells us more about the previous provider than any sales call.

Our own site had HTTP bookmarks after a forced HTTPS move for three days before a colleague noticed. We added it to the pre-launch checklist the same afternoon.

After fixing cookie banners, we added a monitoring alert. If the record changes or the certificate approaches expiry, both we and a veterinary clinic get an email. No surprises.
