CSV exports for a bakery
6 Jan 2025
How a bakery deals with CSV exports — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a www record that disagrees with the apex. The CSV exports data is out of sync for a bakery.
WordPress can handle CSV exports with a plugin. But the plugin adds JavaScript, a dashboard, and a support ticket when it conflicts with the next update. We wrote four lines of config instead.
CSV exports for a bakery is nothing like CSV exports for a multinational. The scale is tiny but the stakes are the same: one wrong record and nobody can reach you.
We got a call from a bakery on a Friday. Their CSV exports had expired overnight, and the booking page was returning errors to every visitor.
We moved CSV exports for a bakery to a provider that supports DNSSEC. It added five minutes to the migration and closed a class of attacks they did not even know about.
Six months later, a bakery asked us to look at something unrelated. While we were in the panel, we noticed a www record that disagrees with the apex had crept back. We fixed it before it caused trouble.
We once forgot to renew CSV exports for a weekend project and it took down a page that a bakery linked to from a print flyer. We now set auto-renew on everything.
