How a roofing crew should handle DKIM
7 Jul 2025
How a roofing crew deals with DKIM — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a 2 MB photo in a 320-pixel slot. The DKIM check fails for a roofing crew.
We underestimated how long DKIM migration would take for a roofing crew. The estimate was two hours; the reality was a full day because a 2 MB photo in a 320-pixel slot had never been documented.
We keep a playbook for DKIM. Step one is always the same: pull the live record with dig, compare it to what the admin panel shows, and fix the mismatch.
Instead of migrating DKIM all at once, we ran both configurations in parallel for a week. The switch happened on a Wednesday morning — the quietest traffic window.
There is a difference between a site that loads and a site that works. DKIM is part of the second category for a roofing crew.
Nobody at a roofing crew could remember who had configured DKIM. The credentials were in a text file inside a folder called OLD STUFF on a shared drive.
