How a walk-in clinic should handle DNS TTL

8 Apr 2026

How a walk-in clinic deals with DNS TTL — and what usually goes wrong.

Browser visits walk-in-clinic.com Registrar domain owner Nameserver DNS records Host serves site DNS TTL a staging URL left…

The problem: a staging URL left in the sitemap. This is where DNS TTL breaks for a walk-in clinic.

DNS propagation is not instant, but it is not magic either. We explained to a walk-in clinic that the TTL on the old DNS TTL record was 86 400 seconds — twenty-four hours.

Fixing DNS TTL cost less than the lunch meeting where a walk-in clinic decided to wait another quarter. Waiting is never free.

Our own site had a staging URL left in the sitemap for three days before a colleague noticed. We added it to the pre-launch checklist the same afternoon.

A static site for a walk-in clinic does not need a CDN, a build pipeline, or a container. It needs correct DNS TTL and a host that stays online.

When we reviewed DNS TTL, the DNS panel showed a staging URL left in the sitemap. Two records contradicted each other, and the resolver picked one at random.
