Managing holiday hours at a driving school
14 Aug 2026
How a driving school deals with holiday hours — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: an inbox shared between the office and the webmaster. The holiday hours data is out of sync for a driving school.
We got a call from a driving school on a Friday. Their holiday hours had expired overnight, and the booking page was returning errors to every visitor.
a driving school did not want to hear about holiday hours. They wanted to know: will the site work tomorrow morning. The answer was yes, but only if we fix an inbox shared between the office and the webmaster today.
DNS propagation is not instant, but it is not magic either. We explained to a driving school that the TTL on the old holiday hours record was 86 400 seconds — twenty-four hours.
We write notes like this one because the same problems come back. If someone at a driving school reads it and avoids an inbox shared between the office and the webmaster, the note paid for itself.
We moved holiday hours for a driving school to a provider that supports DNSSEC. It added five minutes to the migration and closed a class of attacks they did not even know about.
Most of the damage we see in holiday hours comes from doing too much. A single correct record beats three that were supposed to be clever.
