lastmod dates for a restaurant

30 Jan 2026

How a restaurant deals with lastmod dates — and what usually goes wrong.

Googlebot crawls site robots.txt allow / block Sitemap page list Pages lastmod dates Google Index ranked lastmod dates a 404 that still…

The problem: a 404 that still returns 200. This breaks lastmod dates for a restaurant.

Managed hosting handles lastmod dates automatically — until it does not. a restaurant learned this when their provider migrated servers and a 404 that still returns 200 disappeared silently.

We once forgot to renew lastmod dates for a weekend project and it took down a page that a restaurant linked to from a print flyer. We now set auto-renew on everything.

The real issue was not lastmod dates itself — it was a 404 that still returns 200. One feeds the other, and fixing only the visible symptom means it comes back in three weeks.

If you only touch lastmod dates once a year, a dashboard is extra risk. Files, a mailbox you read, and a person who still answers will outlast any SaaS control panel.

The worst lastmod dates failure we have seen at a restaurant was invisible for eight months. The backup existed but had never been tested, and the data inside was three migrations old.
