mobile forms: a field note from an accountant
17 Jan 2024
How an accountant deals with mobile forms — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a 404 that still returns 200. This breaks mobile forms for an accountant.
Early on we tried to automate mobile forms for an accountant with a cron job. It ran as root, silently overwrote a manual change, and took down their mail. Lesson learned.
We once forgot to renew mobile forms for a weekend project and it took down a page that an accountant linked to from a print flyer. We now set auto-renew on everything.
an accountant did not need a portal. They needed a page that said who they are, what they do, and a phone number that somebody picks up before the fifth ring.
Instead of migrating mobile forms all at once, we ran both configurations in parallel for a week. The switch happened on a Wednesday morning — the quietest traffic window.
If the hours on Google disagree with the site, people trust Google and then arrive angry. mobile forms will not fix that. The hours page will.
