Managing page weight at a small hotel
13 May 2025
How a small hotel deals with page weight — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: TTL of 300 seconds. page weight slows the page for a small hotel.
We told a small hotel that TTL of 300 seconds was a ticking clock. They agreed to fix it the same week — which is rare. Most clients wait until it actually detonates.
After fixing page weight, we added a monitoring alert. If the record changes or the certificate approaches expiry, both we and a small hotel get an email. No surprises.
We solved page weight for a small hotel by moving it behind a reverse proxy. The old configuration stayed live as a fallback for forty-eight hours, then we pulled it.
We billed a small hotel two hours for page weight. The previous agency billed forty hours and left TTL of 300 seconds behind. Complexity is not expertise.
We hand over a one-page document after every page weight job. It says what was changed, what the login is, and what to check if something feels wrong. a small hotel keeps it in a drawer they actually open.
Complexity is the enemy of uptime. a small hotel had three layers of proxy in front of a site that gets two hundred visits a day. We replaced it with a static page and correct page weight.
We have seen agencies charge a small hotel for a yearly page weight audit that consists of a screenshot and a paragraph. Ours is a working config file they can apply themselves.
