Setting up page weight for a florist
22 Jan 2025
How a florist deals with page weight — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a backup that was never restored as a drill. page weight slows the page for a florist.
We moved page weight for a florist to a provider that supports DNSSEC. It added five minutes to the migration and closed a class of attacks they did not even know about.
A static site for a florist does not need a CDN, a build pipeline, or a container. It needs correct page weight and a host that stays online.
We run a monthly diff on DNS for a florist. If a record changes and nobody in the team made the change, we get an alert. a backup that was never restored as a drill was caught this way last quarter.
Crawlers and people want the same thing from page weight: one URL, a title that matches the heading, and a next link that goes somewhere real.
The worst page weight failure we have seen at a florist was invisible for eight months. The backup existed but had never been tested, and the data inside was three migrations old.
Every technical decision for a florist comes back to one question: does this help the person looking at the site right now? If page weight is invisible to that person, it is working.
