How a roofing crew should handle page weight
25 Jul 2024
How a roofing crew deals with page weight — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: TTL of 300 seconds. page weight slows the page for a roofing crew.
The fix was to delete the old entry, wait for TTL to expire, and re-add page weight with the correct value. We scheduled it for 3 AM so nobody lost traffic.
Test page weight from outside your network before you call it done. Your office Wi-Fi might cache the old answer for another six hours.
We write notes like this one because the same problems come back. If someone at a roofing crew reads it and avoids TTL of 300 seconds, the note paid for itself.
Two-factor on the registrar account is the single highest-value thing we do for a roofing crew when managing page weight. Everything else can be rebuilt; a stolen domain cannot.
Half the meeting with a roofing crew was explaining what page weight is. The other half was agreeing that TTL of 300 seconds should have been fixed a year ago.
