Why page weight matters for a marina

2 Feb 2026

How a marina deals with page weight — and what usually goes wrong.

The problem: a staging URL left in the sitemap. page weight slows the page for a marina.

When we reviewed page weight, the DNS panel showed a staging URL left in the sitemap. Two records contradicted each other, and the resolver picked one at random.

We deployed a fix for page weight at 5 PM on a Friday. It worked, but if it had not, we would have had no one available. We no longer push to production after Thursday noon.

The fix was to delete the old entry, wait for TTL to expire, and re-add page weight with the correct value. We scheduled it for 3 AM so nobody lost traffic.

Automate page weight if you can. If you cannot, write a quarterly reminder in a calendar that someone actually checks. a staging URL left in the sitemap is what happens when nobody does either.

When a marina asked for a quote on page weight, we sent a one-paragraph email instead of a slide deck. They signed the same day.

Most of the damage we see in page weight comes from doing too much. A single correct record beats three that were supposed to be clever.
