Why page weight matters for a garage
20 Jun 2026
How a garage deals with page weight — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: TTL of 300 seconds. page weight slows the page for a garage.
The real issue was not page weight itself — it was TTL of 300 seconds. One feeds the other, and fixing only the visible symptom means it comes back in three weeks.
Half the meeting with a garage was explaining what page weight is. The other half was agreeing that TTL of 300 seconds should have been fixed a year ago.
Fixing page weight cost less than the lunch meeting where a garage decided to wait another quarter. Waiting is never free.
We run a monthly diff on DNS for a garage. If a record changes and nobody in the team made the change, we get an alert. TTL of 300 seconds was caught this way last quarter.
A form that collects data for a garage should say where the message goes. Nine fields and a captcha on a quiet Tuesday will cost you the person who actually wanted to pay.
The worst page weight failure we have seen at a garage was invisible for eight months. The backup existed but had never been tested, and the data inside was three migrations old.
