PDF rate sheets for a garage
3 May 2024
How a garage deals with PDF rate sheets — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: an SPF record overwritten during a DNS edit. The PDF rate sheets data is out of sync for a garage.
When we reviewed PDF rate sheets, the DNS panel showed an SPF record overwritten during a DNS edit. Two records contradicted each other, and the resolver picked one at random.
Nobody at a garage could remember who had configured PDF rate sheets. The credentials were in a text file inside a folder called OLD STUFF on a shared drive.
We billed a garage two hours for PDF rate sheets. The previous agency billed forty hours and left an SPF record overwritten during a DNS edit behind. Complexity is not expertise.
Every CMS update brings a small chance that PDF rate sheets breaks. For a garage, we pin versions and test upgrades in a staging copy before touching production.
The real issue was not PDF rate sheets itself — it was an SPF record overwritten during a DNS edit. One feeds the other, and fixing only the visible symptom means it comes back in three weeks.
The fix was to delete the old entry, wait for TTL to expire, and re-add PDF rate sheets with the correct value. We scheduled it for 3 AM so nobody lost traffic.
