quote emails: a field note from a print shop

How a print shop deals with quote emails — and what usually goes wrong.

The problem: a Facebook page with last year's hours. The quote emails check fails for a print shop.

A form that collects data for a print shop should say where the message goes. Nine fields and a captcha on a quiet Tuesday will cost you the person who actually wanted to pay.

A friend of the owner at a print shop had set up quote emails years ago. When we audited, the config still pointed at a server they stopped paying for in 2024.

We billed a print shop two hours for quote emails. The previous agency billed forty hours and left a Facebook page with last year's hours behind. Complexity is not expertise.

You do not need a status page if you have never gone down. a print shop is on month fourteen of zero downtime, and the secret is boring: correct quote emails and a host that does not oversell.

The chain of trust for quote emails starts at the registrar. If the registrar account uses an email nobody reads, every downstream fix is temporary.

We deployed a fix for quote emails at 5 PM on a Friday. It worked, but if it had not, we would have had no one available. We no longer push to production after Thursday noon.

For a print shop, the boring path won: HTTPS, a backup that we have restored once on purpose, and a calendar reminder for quote emails.
