A practical look at registrar locks for a florist

How a florist deals with registrar locks — and what usually goes wrong.

The problem: a calendar they already pay for. This is where registrar locks breaks for a florist.

The fix was to delete the old entry, wait for TTL to expire, and re-add registrar locks with the correct value. We scheduled it for 3 AM so nobody lost traffic.

The hosting bill for a florist is twelve dollars a month. Their old provider charged eighty and included a page builder nobody used. registrar locks was broken on both plans.

Maintenance is not glamorous, but it is the reason a florist has not had downtime since we took over registrar locks. The invoice is small and the peace of mind is large.

When we onboard a florist, the first thing we check is registrar locks. It tells us more about the previous provider than any sales call.

Instead of migrating registrar locks all at once, we ran both configurations in parallel for a week. The switch happened on a Wednesday morning — the quietest traffic window.

We told a florist that a calendar they already pay for was a ticking clock. They agreed to fix it the same week — which is rare. Most clients wait until it actually detonates.
