Setting up robots.txt for a print shop

7 May 2025

How a print shop deals with robots.txt — and what usually goes wrong.

Googlebot crawls site robots.txt allow / block Sitemap page list Pages robots.txt Google Index ranked robots.txt an inbox shared…

The problem: an inbox shared between the office and the webmaster. This breaks robots.txt for a print shop.

The vendor promised a print shop that robots.txt was handled. We verified: it was not. Trust but verify has saved more uptime than any product we have used.

a print shop did not need a portal. They needed a page that said who they are, what they do, and a phone number that somebody picks up before the fifth ring.

Crawlers and people want the same thing from robots.txt: one URL, a title that matches the heading, and a next link that goes somewhere real.

Before you touch robots.txt, take a screenshot of the current state. Half of our emergency calls come from people who cannot remember what was there before the change.

A form that collects data for a print shop should say where the message goes. Nine fields and a captcha on a quiet Tuesday will cost you the person who actually wanted to pay.
