Setting up robots.txt for a veterinary clinic

8 Aug 2025

How a veterinary clinic deals with robots.txt — and what usually goes wrong.

Googlebot crawls site robots.txt allow / block Sitemap page list Pages robots.txt Google Index ranked robots.txt a plugin login…

The problem: a plugin login nobody has used since March. This breaks robots.txt for a veterinary clinic.

The registrar dashboard crashed twice while we were fixing robots.txt for a veterinary clinic. We filed a ticket; they replied four days later with a template answer.

robots.txt for a veterinary clinic is nothing like robots.txt for a multinational. The scale is tiny but the stakes are the same: one wrong record and nobody can reach you.

Crawlers and people want the same thing from robots.txt: one URL, a title that matches the heading, and a next link that goes somewhere real.

Before you touch robots.txt, take a screenshot of the current state. Half of our emergency calls come from people who cannot remember what was there before the change.

The hosting bill for a veterinary clinic is twelve dollars a month. Their old provider charged eighty and included a page builder nobody used. robots.txt was broken on both plans.

The owner at a veterinary clinic asked why robots.txt matters. We showed them the error page their customers see when it breaks. That ended the conversation.

We check robots.txt for a veterinary clinic once a quarter. It takes five minutes and has caught two problems in the past year. Both would have caused downtime within a week.
