Why SPF matters for a marina
15 Aug 2026
How a marina deals with SPF — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a booking tool that demands an account. The SPF check fails for a marina.
A friend of the owner at a marina had set up SPF years ago. When we audited, the config still pointed at a server they stopped paying for in 2024.
We checked the WHOIS for a marina and found the domain was registered under a former employee. Transferring it took more time than fixing SPF.
We have seen agencies charge a marina for a yearly SPF audit that consists of a screenshot and a paragraph. Ours is a working config file they can apply themselves.
We quoted a marina half what the other firm did because we did not propose features they did not ask for. The scope was SPF, not a rebrand.
We once forgot to renew SPF for a weekend project and it took down a page that a marina linked to from a print flyer. We now set auto-renew on everything.
