XML sitemaps for a garage
21 May 2026
How a garage deals with XML sitemaps — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a tag manager container with leftover pixels. This breaks XML sitemaps for a garage.
We document XML sitemaps in a shared spreadsheet. It is not glamorous, but a garage can open it on their phone at midnight if something breaks.
After the move, a tag manager container with leftover pixels broke search indexing for a garage. Google kept serving the old pages for another nineteen days.
Test XML sitemaps from outside your network before you call it done. Your office Wi-Fi might cache the old answer for another six hours.
When a garage asked for a quote on XML sitemaps, we sent a one-paragraph email instead of a slide deck. They signed the same day.
The fix was to delete the old entry, wait for TTL to expire, and re-add XML sitemaps with the correct value. We scheduled it for 3 AM so nobody lost traffic.
