A records: a field note from a plumber

21 Jun 2026

How a plumber deals with A records — and what usually goes wrong.

Browser visits plumber.com Registrar domain owner Nameserver DNS records Host serves site A records a www record that…

The problem: a www record that disagrees with the apex. This is where A records breaks for a plumber.

We run a monthly diff on DNS for a plumber. If a record changes and nobody in the team made the change, we get an alert. a www record that disagrees with the apex was caught this way last quarter.

Instead of migrating A records all at once, we ran both configurations in parallel for a week. The switch happened on a Wednesday morning — the quietest traffic window.

When a plumber asked for a quote on A records, we sent a one-paragraph email instead of a slide deck. They signed the same day.

We quoted a plumber half what the other firm did because we did not propose features they did not ask for. The scope was A records, not a rebrand.

If the hours on Google disagree with the site, people trust Google and then arrive angry. A records will not fix that. The hours page will.
