How a florist should handle cookie banners

20 Aug 2024

How a florist deals with cookie banners — and what usually goes wrong.

Request florist.com HTML document Scripts a tag manager… Other assets consent overlay Render visible page

The problem: a tag manager container with leftover pixels. cookie banners slows the page for a florist.

If the hours on Google disagree with the site, people trust Google and then arrive angry. cookie banners will not fix that. The hours page will.

Two-factor on the registrar account is the single highest-value thing we do for a florist when managing cookie banners. Everything else can be rebuilt; a stolen domain cannot.

a florist did not need a portal. They needed a page that said who they are, what they do, and a phone number that somebody picks up before the fifth ring.

Crawlers and people want the same thing from cookie banners: one URL, a title that matches the heading, and a next link that goes somewhere real.

For a florist, the boring path won: HTTPS, a backup that we have restored once on purpose, and a calendar reminder for cookie banners.
