CSV exports: a field note from a garage
8 May 2024
How a garage deals with CSV exports — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a CSV the accountant already knows how to open. The CSV exports data is out of sync for a garage.
The fix was to delete the old entry, wait for TTL to expire, and re-add CSV exports with the correct value. We scheduled it for 3 AM so nobody lost traffic.
Most of the damage we see in CSV exports comes from doing too much. A single correct record beats three that were supposed to be clever.
Test CSV exports from outside your network before you call it done. Your office Wi-Fi might cache the old answer for another six hours.
The best CSV exports setup is the one nobody has to think about. For a garage, that means auto-renew, auto-redirect, and a monitoring ping every four hours.
Fixing CSV exports cost less than the lunch meeting where a garage decided to wait another quarter. Waiting is never free.
We quoted a garage half what the other firm did because we did not propose features they did not ask for. The scope was CSV exports, not a rebrand.
Two-factor on the registrar account is the single highest-value thing we do for a garage when managing CSV exports. Everything else can be rebuilt; a stolen domain cannot.
