Setting up CSV exports for a yoga studio
6 Feb 2024
How a yoga studio deals with CSV exports — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: query-string copies of the same page. The CSV exports data is out of sync for a yoga studio.
After the move, query-string copies of the same page broke search indexing for a yoga studio. Google kept serving the old pages for another nineteen days.
We deployed a fix for CSV exports at 5 PM on a Friday. It worked, but if it had not, we would have had no one available. We no longer push to production after Thursday noon.
We do not start with a platform when handling CSV exports. We write down who types what, who gets the mail, and what must not get lost. That list is always shorter than a vendor pitch deck.
Before you touch CSV exports, take a screenshot of the current state. Half of our emergency calls come from people who cannot remember what was there before the change.
Complexity is the enemy of uptime. a yoga studio had three layers of proxy in front of a site that gets two hundred visits a day. We replaced it with a static page and correct CSV exports.
WordPress can handle CSV exports with a plugin. But the plugin adds JavaScript, a dashboard, and a support ticket when it conflicts with the next update. We wrote four lines of config instead.
