How a roofing crew should handle CSV exports
12 May 2024
How a roofing crew deals with CSV exports — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a CSV the accountant already knows how to open. The CSV exports data is out of sync for a roofing crew.
We told a roofing crew that a CSV the accountant already knows how to open was a ticking clock. They agreed to fix it the same week — which is rare. Most clients wait until it actually detonates.
Managed hosting handles CSV exports automatically — until it does not. a roofing crew learned this when their provider migrated servers and a CSV the accountant already knows how to open disappeared silently.
Launch day for a roofing crew is usually light. Week three is when leftover tags, fonts, and staging URLs show up. a CSV the accountant already knows how to open is the usual passenger.
Nobody at a roofing crew could remember who had configured CSV exports. The credentials were in a text file inside a folder called OLD STUFF on a shared drive.
We deployed a fix for CSV exports at 5 PM on a Friday. It worked, but if it had not, we would have had no one available. We no longer push to production after Thursday noon.
Every CMS update brings a small chance that CSV exports breaks. For a roofing crew, we pin versions and test upgrades in a staging copy before touching production.
