DNS TTL for a driving school

5 Jun 2025

How a driving school deals with DNS TTL — and what usually goes wrong.

Browser visits driving-school.com Registrar domain owner Nameserver DNS records Host serves site DNS TTL a backup that was…

The problem: a backup that was never restored as a drill. This is where DNS TTL breaks for a driving school.

Managed hosting handles DNS TTL automatically — until it does not. a driving school learned this when their provider migrated servers and a backup that was never restored as a drill disappeared silently.

Related work on this site follows the same principle: one job, a real inbox, no theatre. a driving school did not need four analytics dashboards to know that Tuesdays are slow.

We got a call from a driving school on a Friday. Their DNS TTL had expired overnight, and the booking page was returning errors to every visitor.

If you only touch DNS TTL once a year, a dashboard is extra risk. Files, a mailbox you read, and a person who still answers will outlast any SaaS control panel.

WordPress can handle DNS TTL with a plugin. But the plugin adds JavaScript, a dashboard, and a support ticket when it conflicts with the next update. We wrote four lines of config instead.
