How a roofing crew should handle DNS TTL

24 Jul 2025

How a roofing crew deals with DNS TTL — and what usually goes wrong.

Browser visits roofing-crew.com Registrar domain owner Nameserver DNS records Host serves site DNS TTL a backup that was…

The problem: a backup that was never restored as a drill. This is where DNS TTL breaks for a roofing crew.

For a roofing crew, we wrote a three-line script that checks DNS TTL every morning and emails the owner if anything changes. Total cost: zero.

We got a call from a roofing crew on a Friday. Their DNS TTL had expired overnight, and the booking page was returning errors to every visitor.

WordPress can handle DNS TTL with a plugin. But the plugin adds JavaScript, a dashboard, and a support ticket when it conflicts with the next update. We wrote four lines of config instead.

Maintenance is not glamorous, but it is the reason a roofing crew has not had downtime since we took over DNS TTL. The invoice is small and the peace of mind is large.

We hand over a one-page document after every DNS TTL job. It says what was changed, what the login is, and what to check if something feels wrong. a roofing crew keeps it in a drawer they actually open.
