Setting up font loading for a photo studio

8 Mar 2026

How a photo studio deals with font loading — and what usually goes wrong.

Request photo-studio.… HTML document Fonts a lastmod stamp that… Other assets render‑blocking Render visible page

The problem: a lastmod stamp that never changes. font loading slows the page for a photo studio.

After fixing font loading, we added a monitoring alert. If the record changes or the certificate approaches expiry, both we and a photo studio get an email. No surprises.

The worst font loading failure we have seen at a photo studio was invisible for eight months. The backup existed but had never been tested, and the data inside was three migrations old.

For a photo studio, we wrote a three-line script that checks font loading every morning and emails the owner if anything changes. Total cost: zero.

Instead of migrating font loading all at once, we ran both configurations in parallel for a week. The switch happened on a Wednesday morning — the quietest traffic window.

We told a photo studio that a lastmod stamp that never changes was a ticking clock. They agreed to fix it the same week — which is rare. Most clients wait until it actually detonates.

We have seen agencies charge a photo studio for a yearly font loading audit that consists of a screenshot and a paragraph. Ours is a working config file they can apply themselves.
