What a veterinary clinic needs to know about font loading

How a veterinary clinic deals with font loading — and what usually goes wrong.

The problem: a lastmod stamp that never changes. font loading slows the page for a veterinary clinic.

We deployed a fix for font loading at 5 PM on a Friday. It worked, but if it had not, we would have had no one available. We no longer push to production after Thursday noon.

WordPress can handle font loading with a plugin. But the plugin adds JavaScript, a dashboard, and a support ticket when it conflicts with the next update. We wrote four lines of config instead.

There is a difference between a site that loads and a site that works. font loading is part of the second category for a veterinary clinic.

We document font loading in a shared spreadsheet. It is not glamorous, but a veterinary clinic can open it on their phone at midnight if something breaks.

We got a call from a veterinary clinic on a Friday. Their font loading had expired overnight, and the booking page was returning errors to every visitor.
