Setting up nameservers for a plumber

5 Jul 2026

How a plumber deals with nameservers — and what usually goes wrong.

Browser visits plumber.com Registrar domain owner Nameserver DNS records Host serves site nameservers an SPF record…

The problem: an SPF record overwritten during a DNS edit. This is where nameservers breaks for a plumber.

We rotate API keys for nameservers annually. a plumber did not see the point until we showed them the access log: the old key had been used from an IP in a country nobody on their team has visited.

Fixing nameservers cost less than the lunch meeting where a plumber decided to wait another quarter. Waiting is never free.

A static site for a plumber does not need a CDN, a build pipeline, or a container. It needs correct nameservers and a host that stays online.

For a plumber, we wrote a three-line script that checks nameservers every morning and emails the owner if anything changes. Total cost: zero.

A free certificate and a correct nameservers record will do more for a plumber than a redesign that ships with an SPF record overwritten during a DNS edit still in place.

Before you touch nameservers, take a screenshot of the current state. Half of our emergency calls come from people who cannot remember what was there before the change.
