How a bakery should handle nameservers

15 Aug 2026

How a bakery deals with nameservers — and what usually goes wrong.

Browser visits bakery.com Registrar domain owner Nameserver DNS records Host serves site nameservers identical titles on…

The problem: identical titles on every inner page. This is where nameservers breaks for a bakery.

Two-factor on the registrar account is the single highest-value thing we do for a bakery when managing nameservers. Everything else can be rebuilt; a stolen domain cannot.

The owner at a bakery asked why nameservers matters. We showed them the error page their customers see when it breaks. That ended the conversation.

HTTPS is table stakes, but nameservers is where trust actually lives for a bakery. A padlock with a misconfigured record behind it is decoration, not security.

The fix was to delete the old entry, wait for TTL to expire, and re-add nameservers with the correct value. We scheduled it for 3 AM so nobody lost traffic.

Instead of migrating nameservers all at once, we ran both configurations in parallel for a week. The switch happened on a Wednesday morning — the quietest traffic window.
