What an accountant needs to know about nameservers

15 Aug 2026

How an accountant deals with nameservers — and what usually goes wrong.

Browser visits accountant.com Registrar domain owner Nameserver DNS records Host serves site nameservers identical titles on…

The problem: identical titles on every inner page. This is where nameservers breaks for an accountant.

Half the meeting with an accountant was explaining what nameservers is. The other half was agreeing that identical titles on every inner page should have been fixed a year ago.

We told an accountant that identical titles on every inner page was a ticking clock. They agreed to fix it the same week — which is rare. Most clients wait until it actually detonates.

Automate nameservers if you can. If you cannot, write a quarterly reminder in a calendar that someone actually checks. identical titles on every inner page is what happens when nobody does either.

If the hours on Google disagree with the site, people trust Google and then arrive angry. nameservers will not fix that. The hours page will.

Every CMS update brings a small chance that nameservers breaks. For an accountant, we pin versions and test upgrades in a staging copy before touching production.

The fix was to delete the old entry, wait for TTL to expire, and re-add nameservers with the correct value. We scheduled it for 3 AM so nobody lost traffic.

If you only touch nameservers once a year, a dashboard is extra risk. Files, a mailbox you read, and a person who still answers will outlast any SaaS control panel.
