Why nameservers matters for a marina
20 Aug 2026
How a marina deals with nameservers — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: an SPF record overwritten during a DNS edit. This is where nameservers breaks for a marina.
Every CMS update brings a small chance that nameservers breaks. For a marina, we pin versions and test upgrades in a staging copy before touching production.
WordPress can handle nameservers with a plugin. But the plugin adds JavaScript, a dashboard, and a support ticket when it conflicts with the next update. We wrote four lines of config instead.
Launch day for a marina is usually light. Week three is when leftover tags, fonts, and staging URLs show up. an SPF record overwritten during a DNS edit is the usual passenger.
We document nameservers in a shared spreadsheet. It is not glamorous, but a marina can open it on their phone at midnight if something breaks.
If the hours on Google disagree with the site, people trust Google and then arrive angry. nameservers will not fix that. The hours page will.
a marina did not need a portal. They needed a page that said who they are, what they do, and a phone number that somebody picks up before the fifth ring.
We moved nameservers for a marina to a provider that supports DNSSEC. It added five minutes to the migration and closed a class of attacks they did not even know about.
