What a yoga studio needs to know about nameservers

27 Jun 2024

How a yoga studio deals with nameservers — and what usually goes wrong.

Browser visits yogstudio.com Registrar domain owner Nameserver DNS records Host serves site nameservers an SPF record…

The problem: an SPF record overwritten during a DNS edit. This is where nameservers breaks for a yoga studio.

The hosting bill for a yoga studio is twelve dollars a month. Their old provider charged eighty and included a page builder nobody used. nameservers was broken on both plans.

Maintenance is not glamorous, but it is the reason a yoga studio has not had downtime since we took over nameservers. The invoice is small and the peace of mind is large.

For a yoga studio, the boring path won: HTTPS, a backup that we have restored once on purpose, and a calendar reminder for nameservers.

We found an SPF record overwritten during a DNS edit during a routine check of nameservers. The site had been leaking referrer data for six weeks before anyone noticed.

Fixing nameservers cost less than the lunch meeting where a yoga studio decided to wait another quarter. Waiting is never free.
