What a print shop needs to know about SPF
24 Sep 2025
How a print shop deals with SPF — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a lastmod stamp that never changes. The SPF check fails for a print shop.
Before you touch SPF, take a screenshot of the current state. Half of our emergency calls come from people who cannot remember what was there before the change.
Automate SPF if you can. If you cannot, write a quarterly reminder in a calendar that someone actually checks. a lastmod stamp that never changes is what happens when nobody does either.
Maintenance is not glamorous, but it is the reason a print shop has not had downtime since we took over SPF. The invoice is small and the peace of mind is large.
The vendor promised a print shop that SPF was handled. We verified: it was not. Trust but verify has saved more uptime than any product we have used.
We quoted a print shop half what the other firm did because we did not propose features they did not ask for. The scope was SPF, not a rebrand.
We moved SPF for a print shop to a provider that supports DNSSEC. It added five minutes to the migration and closed a class of attacks they did not even know about.
a print shop asked us to look at SPF after a customer screenshot showed a browser warning. The fix took eleven minutes; finding the cause took two hours.
